Glenthorne Station
Glenthorne Station is a 25,000 hectare sheep & cattle station located at the top of Lake Coleridge In the heart of the southern alps.
The station is owned by John Shrimpton and managed by Chris and Jo Johns, who we worked closely with to design, and deliver solutions tailored to their specific needs.
Seven Years in the Making
Glenthorne Station was a large-scale fencing & earthmoving project that took seven years of full-time work to complete. During the duration of the project we installed over 90km’s of fencing and swung over 1100 gates!
We also constructed one set of cattle yards and two sets of sheep yards.
We carried out a wide range of fencing solutions for Glenthorne Station. From fencing off waterways to protect the many freshwater rivers and lakes located on the farm, to re-fencing, developing and subdividing blocks to improve stock and pasture management.
Challenging from Go to Whoa!
The remote location and isolation of Glenthorne Station posed a few challenges for the Hughes fencing & earthworks team.
For example, no cell phone reception, the closest town was a good one hours drive away, harsh weather conditions at times, and the extensive scope of the property.
So, planning, communication, systems and having the right technology/gear was essential for completing the project in a efficient manner and also keeping our team safe.
Forging Relationships that Last
Glenthorne Station was an awesome project to be a part of with no two days being the same and some amazing scenery to work in!
Going forward Glenthorne Station continues to be one of our clients and we look forward to what the future holds for them.
